If you need your document to have effects abroad, you are likely to need the Apostille of The Hague. Most of the documents to be used abroad need not only to be notarised but also legalised by the FCO and sometimes attested by the relevant Consulate/Embassy. For some countries, a confirmation from a chamber of commerce might also be necessary for commercial documents or invoices.

Regarding the services of the Foreign Office, there are two possibilities to obtain apostilles, being the standard and the premium (fast-track) routes, depending on how fast you need to have your documents back.
